We have been talking about music of different countries. One thing common among all the musical traditions is richness and diversity. Agreed, there have been some similarities in some musical cultures but at the same time, each country has its indigenous music that is still thriving.

Music does not work in isolation and cultural inter-mingling of diverse music traditions is quite fascinating. Many countries have been blessed with centuries old tradition of music.

One country where music is a way of life and a medium of celebration is Wales. Situated beside Scotland, Ireland and UK, it’s a relatively small country. Welsh is a part of Celtic region and is tremendously rich when it comes to culture. We don’t need to go too far. Music of welsh is unique and hard to find anywhere else. The citizens of the country are extremely passionate about music. No wonder, country has earned the sobriquet of ‘The Land of the Song’. The title simply shows what a great part music plays in day to day lives of welsh people.

Diverse range of music is popular in Welsh. Pop and rock are very much accepted by the public. Famous groups and singers are, John Cale, Duffy, A59, My Turn To Kill, Green Gartside, 60ft Dolls, Man, The Alarm, Budgie, Xms3, Catatonia, Feeder, The Peth, Christopher Rees, Bullet for My Valentine, The Automatic, SDR and Goldie Lookin' Chain Lostprophets to name a few.

Welsh is better known for organzing folk dance sessions in the mainland. These sessions are known as Twmpath. There are number of other celebrations and festivals in welsh like Gwyl Werin and Ceilidh etc. Most used musical instruments in welsh music are, Pibgorn, Harp, Crwth, Flute and Whistle. Male voice choirs of the country have also contributed in making Welsh music popular in many parts of the world.
