Salsa is a unique form of dance mainly because different cultures have played a role in the evolution of this dance form. This dance is full of appeal and sophistication. It is the Latin and the Caribbean culture that has laid the foundation for Salsa. There are several Afro- Caribbean and Latin dances that have come together to become one dance – Salsa.

Salsa is a dance that lays emphasis on side to side dance movement. Eight counts of music are played in Salsa and six steps dance pattern is followed. Salsa is very a very pleasant dance form. It almost makes you flow with the beats that are followed. Another Latin dance form that is similar to Salsa is Mambo. While Salsa dancing is about side to side dance movement, Mambo is more about back and forth dancing movements.

Though there are a lot of speculations, Cuba is the place where Salsa is said to be originated. It is the magic if Cuban music that rolls the beats and couples perform the famous Latin and African dance – Salsa. Today the popularity of Salsa has grown multifold. It is famous is most of the regions like Colombia, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, London, India, Russia, New Zealand etc.

There are so many movies that have incorporated Salsa as their integral elements. The popularity of Salsa is also growing in India. There are so many Salsa dance classes that have opened up in major cities in the country. Salsa as a dance requires immense practice. It is indeed a tough dance to master.

There is a lot of coordination required between Salsa partners. Salsa dance involves two basic movements; the forward basic movement and the back basic movement. The forwards and back movements are combined with several other small movements and body positions in salsa dance. The female partner faces the man and will perform steps which compliment his partner’s movements. Salsa is an indeed one of the most romantic forms of dance.
