The next country in the series of world music is Dutch music. People all over the world need to know about wonderful Dutch music. The country has always been known for producing beautiful flowers and its strong sports culture. But it has also given world music, some soothing compositions.

Netherlands has always thrived on its strong culture and tradition. Its rich tradition is truly reflected in its music. Despite the onslaught of new forms of music from all over the world, it has managed to retain its cultural flavor in music and dance.

The most fascinating aspect about Dutch music is combination of different traditions in its music. That combination emerges from its proximity to Belgium, Germany and Britain among the others. Because of the history of the country in pre-world war phase, it comes as no surprise to find amalgamation of other cultures in country’s belly.

The very own traditional music of Netherlands is known as ‘NederPop’. The literal meaning of the term is songs about life. No prizes for guessing how terrific songs of country are if we go by its literal meaning. This music style has been greatly influenced by UK and USA during the 1950s.

Indigenous music of the country, also known as Levenslied has continued to remain strong. The folk music of the country has melodious tunes and soulful lyrics. It has plain bass motives and appealing lyrics. The country has also made a mark for itself in the arena of pop and rock music. Artists like Toontje Lager, Doe Maar, Frank Boeijen Groep and Het Geode Dowl have continued to entice fans with their compositions.

Generally, themes found in Dutch songs explain emotions like death, love, pain, sadness, melancholy etc. The common instruments used in songs are barrel organ, synthesizers, accordion, guitars etc. The country’s musical stature has grown by leaps and bounds in recent times.
