Dance is composed of various moves and movements of the human body. Be it any form of dance, one move is as important as the whole dance itself. When various dance moves are put together, they synchronize and form a dance performance. Coordinating and putting these dance moves together is what dance choreography is all about.
One can imagine a pyramid formed out of playing cards. Dance moves are like those cards which are put together to form the dance pyramid. One move wrong and a flaw can be distinctly seen in the dance performance.
Composure of the human body can consist of several forms of dance moves. Be it Salsa, Jazz, Bhangra, Break Dance, Bharat Natyam or Kuchipudi, dance moves are the basic form and an elementary level with which a student of dance climbs the ladder towards becoming a professional dancer.
Dance moves are choreographed in such a way that each step and each frame is synchronized with the music on which the dance is being performed. All the dance moves thus have fixed steps so that a learner can learn it quickly and effectively. Practicing of each dance move and mastering it will only lead to a fine performance of the whole dance event put together.
Different dances have different moves. However, a few moves are common and they overlap. The name of different dance moves varies from place to place and person to person. Even classical and folk have different moves with some moves overlapping each other.
Famous dance moves like box step, ball change, free spin, inside turn, basic figure, basic movement, basic step, gancho, grapevine, feather step etc are present in Indian folk dances as well however they are just named differently. Because the use if instruments on which these dance moves are being performed are different, we get a feeling that these moves are different as well.
