The Czech Republic was a part of erstwhile Czechoslovakia that was formed after the country was divided into different parts. That’s the reason why Czech and Slovakia, the two offshoots of the division has so much similarity in their music. The country is a peaceful one and that shows in kind of music being prevalent in the country. The citizens of the country are very fond of culture of symphony and opera, not to forget other music traditions.

Czech music is known for its variety and class since time immemorial. The country has several ethnic groups and that shows in its music culture. Whether you are seeking pop, rock, classical or jazz, you can find all of them in this picturesque country. The country has been greatly benefited by its legends. According to few opinions, Czech music has also contributed heavily in the evolution of European music.

Czech music won’t be complete without mentioning folk music. It has been said that the folk singers of the country were symbolic messengers of its socialist policies. The country has been blessed with great musicians who have contributed greatly in the development of its music. These composers have also brought Czech music to the forefront of world music. Famous names like Bohuslay, Antonin Dvorak, Bedrich Smetana and Leos Janacek ring a bell in the minds of music enthusiasts. These artists have become legendary with the contribution they have made over the years.

In recent times, other genres of music have managed to carve a niche for themselves in Czech Republic. Rap, hip-hop and rock are very popular in the country. Artists like Gipsy.cz, Chaozz, Brno and Peneri strycka homeboye etc are immensely popular in the new age music.
