Classical dance has been one of the strongest cultural forces of India. Classical dancing is almost a family tradition in so many parts of the country. Children of three and four are encouraged to join classical dance classes. The earlier one learns classical dance, the greater the flexibility and perfection that one can achieve. So many dance classes have sprung up across the nation that strives to impart dance lessons to young and old students. Classical dance like Bharata Natyam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Odissi etc can be taught to students through professional dance classes that are run by various dance schools and dance academies.
Classical dance classes help to imbibe a sense of discipline in dance. These dances are such that it requires one to be highly dedicated to this art. It takes almost seven to eight years for one to complete Arangetram – which is a qualified degree in itself for Bharata Natyam. Dance classes not only teach the practical form of dance but also teach you the theory which one needs to know to become a through classical dancer.
For example, a dancer needs to know that all the common root of all classical dance forms can be traced to Bharatha's Natyasastra, all dance forms are structured around the nine rasas or emotions such as hasya (happiness), krodha (anger), bhibatsa (disgust), bhaya (fear), viram (courage), karuna (compassion), adbhuta (wonder) and shanta (serenity). Dance classes thus help you to learn about such essential facts of classical dancing.
All of these classical dance classes help you to perform on the stage with an audience. Musical instruments used in these dance forms are distinctly different from each other and so is the make up used by dancers. Most of the classical dance classes in India have incorporated special attention to make up and costume designing.
